IRS Form 2290 Due Date for 2023-2024 Tax Year
The IRS Form 2290 is used to report Heavy Vehicle Use Taxes (HVUT) for vehicles with a gross weight of 55,000 lbs or more.
The deadline to file Form 2290 depends on the First Used Month (FUM) of the heavy vehicle. First Used Month (FUM) is the month when the vehicle is put on the road.
You must file Form 2290 on or before the last day of the month following the FUM. For instance, if you started operating your vehicle in May 2023, you must file and pay taxes on or before June 30, 2023.
Note: If the last day of the month falls on a Saturday, Sunday, or any legal holidays, you must file form 2290 by the next business day.
The 2023-24 tax period begins on July 1, 2023, and ends on June 30, 2024. The due date for the vehicles having July as their FUM is August 31, 2023.
